Some additional information from the Energy Savings Trust regarding funding for Renewables, and particularly solar PV, for social housing providers

A good overview of the funding opportunities in Scotland can be found on EST web site here: www.energysavingtrust.org.uk/business/Business/Local-Authorities/Funding/Funding-in-Scotland.

Community Energy Scotland
A key sources of funding is the Communities and Renewable Energy Scheme, which gives funding toward the capital costs of renewable energy projects, as well as feasibility studies and capacity building: www.energysavingtrust.org.uk/business/Global-Data/Funding-Information/Communities-and-Renewable-Energy-Scheme-CARES.

This scheme is run by Community Energy Scotland; you can contact them on 01349, 860120 to find out more.

Feed In Tariffs
Another key source of funding to be aware of for renewable electricity technologies are feed-in tariffs (FiTs), which are due to be introduced in April 2010; owners of small-scale microgeneration equipment will receive money for every kWh of electricity that they produce. Further information can be found here:
www.energysavingtrust.org.uk/business/Global-Data/Funding-Information/Feed-in-Tariffs.

As the Government consultation response acknowledges, ‘the public sector operates within a tight fiscal context where capturing future income streams is essential to viability and delivery of buildings and services.

Therefore FiTs can be a major driver in leveraging the potential of on-site Renewables in the public sector.’ The full consultation response can be found here: www.decc.gov.uk/en/content/cms/consultations/elec_financial/elec_financial.aspx.

Commercial Funding
These are sources of lending moneys for banks and finance houses.  They are not grants but commercial money requiring capital repayment and interest.

Such funding will be conditional
